An Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) is a system designed to treat wastewater generated by industries before it is discharged into the environment or reused. Industrial wastewater, also known as effluent, often contains harmful substances such as oils, chemicals, heavy metals, and toxic pollutants. If released untreated, it can cause serious damage to the environment, aquatic life, and human health. The treatment process in an ETP generally includes several stages. In the preliminary treatment, large solids and debris are removed, and pH levels are adjusted. Primary treatment involves settling tanks where heavier solids sink to the bottom and oil or grease is skimmed from the surface. In the secondary treatment, biological processes break down organic matter using microorganisms. Tertiary treatment further purifies the water using advanced filtration, chemical treatment, or disinfection methods such as UV light or chlorine. Finally, the solid waste or sludge collected during the process is treated and safely disposed of.
